Spring Fling: Saturday June 2nd
The United Methodist Women will be having a fundraiser for the Capital Improvements for the Agape Expansion. With the United Methodist Men's help, we will have a pancake breakfast. We plan on having tables with bakery/candy, crafts, white elephant items (no clothes, please), plants, and there will be several Silent Auction items. We are asking all groups in the church to be a part of this or to donate in any way they can. Is there something you sew or craft that would be of interest to others? Perhaps you are dividing your plants outside or inside, and could share with the plant table. We know we have many good cooks that have a special dessert, breads, or candy they're known for. This is a chance for all of us to help our Agape Food Pantry.
Who We Are...What We Do
The Goshen United Methodist Women's group meet on the second Monday of each month at 7:00 pm. The meeting starts with a devotion, then a business discussion and on to our program. Below is a short list of some of our ongoing projects:
- Throughout the year we donate to UMCOR (United Methodist Commission On Relief)
- Make prayer shawls, baby hats, baby quilts, neck pillows, stroke victim aprons, pillows for breast cancer patients, and hats for chemo patients and donate them to Bethesda North Hospital
- Put together and donate Festival of Sharing Kits
- Every Christmas we purchase and put together many gifts for those in need.
- Help the Agape Food Pantry when needed.
- Organize and provide dinners for families after funerals, if requested.
- Many of the women are involved in the Ohio Reads Program at Goshen Schools.
This year we took on the project of updating and renovating the Prayer and Share room. We purchased four new sofas, cleaned the existing furniture, added an area rug, replaced the lamp shades and painted the room. We donated the sofas that were in the room to families in need.
We have several fund-raising projects to help us accomplish all of the endeavors. Below is an example of a few of our projects:
- Chocolate covered Easter Eggs - we make the chocolage covered eggs from scratch, hand form and hand dip them. There are several different flavors. We have been doing this since 1983!
- We prepare and serve "Election Day Lunches" in our fellowship hall each election day.
- We organize, prepare and serve the food for the Lion's Club Holly Fair luncheon.
- We have prepared and served the Goshen Chamber of Commerce Christmas meeting dinner for the last several years.
